I couldn’t see but, you were always there,

Standing calm and silent like prayer.

In dark and dreary times,

You were there to hold me tight.

In sunny and happy days,

You were there to sustain my smile.

Alas! I couldn’t see as unaware.

When I was frail and broken,

You were there to cheer.

When I was hale and hearty,

You were there to take care.

Alas! I couldn’t perceive as unaware.

When I cried and shed tears,

You whispered hope in my ears.

When I was naïve and couldn’t dare,

You infused courage and wiped all my fears.

Alas! I couldn’t recognise as unaware.

As soon as my bumptious ignorance will disappear, and

Murky vision becomes clear; sure I’m, to see you standing,

As you were always there.

One word (from my limited vocabulary): Amazing !!!!

Loved this one !!! And understood it too !!!! I must read more poems to get the hang of them I guess…

  2. Shernaz says:

The poem has a lyrical flow and is left open to interpretation as you said. It’s beauty lies in that each one can relate to it in a personal way. Hope to read more of your work here, Deepika.

  3. Enjoyed reading your poem. Nice!

  4. Dear Deepika,

A beautiful poem. The lines in the poem made me think of two people (mother and God).

They indeed are always there for you, guiding you, just being there for you.

Hope to see more of your poetry in the near future.

Very, very beautiful lines which reinforce the value and power of faith in the beloved or even havem. as Vimla said. metaphysical connotations. Surprised to have a strong and solemn verse from you ! But that is what makes reading (and life itself) so very interesting.

Thanks, all of you for such an encouraging response.
Yes Sneha, certainly, this is my first poem but,not the first attempt to write.I’ve written few Jingles earlier(never tried to share)and one poem on the occasion of my grandfather’s B’day.
I strongly believe in an unseen power which always remain with us.

      Hi! Connetta.
Thankx for reading and appreciating my peice of verse.
I guess, its the first time that I’m interacting with you.

Wow Deepika, glad to have a poem from you. Its an expression of tremendous faith in someone.
It could be a friend,lover,spouse- anybody. But my version is that it could be somebody recalling her mother’s love and care, a mother who is no more yet whose presence is desired so much that she almost comes alive sometimes- in dream almost as real as the truth.
(Actually I recall how much my mother misses her mother- my grandmother)
    Beautiful.

Taken metaphysically too, it is the essence of Hinduism. It is a beautiful poem,Deepika.

  13. Sneha says:

First of all, its a delight and a surprise to see your verse, Deepika. I think I’m reading a poem written by you for the first time.

One word describes it best : Evocative
What I infer about the poem and gather is that maybe its for someone who isn’t physically present but you can feel his/her presence always! I love that feeling, and I admire people who believe in the power of it.
