Nostalgia: Let It Be by Shail Raghuvanshi

Nostalgia – a beautiful word

Understood even by the greatest nerd.

Floating and Flying into the prolific past

Hoping beyond hope, lost emotions would eternally last.

until yesterday

But, not today as I dread each draining day.

When my reflections no longer transport me,

Into a world I long wishfully to see!

Getting  disheartened with every dying attempt

Disillusion, darkness, delirium – is this what nostalgia actually meant?

My old convent school flashes a neon sign,

The hangouts today a flashy place to dine.

The monument of a memory laden home

Today, a modern multi storied dome.

Hurt, harassed and dismayed

I search for all the good times that were originally made.

Like ashes in an urn of a loved one

I roam like a zombie waiting for my turn.

If a living being could turn to dust

What of a past that has to naturally rust?

Patting myself on my shoulder

I  tell myself…

Let Memories Be.

Let It Be. Let It Be.

( There will be an answer, let it be,

Let it be, let it be. Yeah

There will be an answer. Let it be….. Beatles.)

    Hi Shail!
Read your well expressed poem and enjoyed it.

    Beautiful poem!
Nostalgia is also a time to recall happy moments and live them over again; The pounding of the heart and the gradual quietening of the mind, like daylight hours giving way to twilight hues.

    • Dear Eva,

Definitely. Nostalgia is another name for happy memories. I agree entirely.
But sometimes, the mind dwells on the not so joyous reflections too.. That’s where these lines come in.
Thanks. Nice you liked the poem.

    so beautiful

  8. vimala madon says:

Memories carry so many emotions, the depth of each varying according to age and the time when they were created. As someone long ago wrote to me,’ we meet to create memories, and depart to preserve them’.

    • Dear Vimala,

Exactly, ‘We meet to create memories and depart to preserve them.’
But, sometimes, delving into the past can be painful although I do agree that memories vary from person to person, age and time…

‘Hoping beyond hope, lost emotions would eternally last.

    until yesterday…’

But nothing lasts forever… except nostalgia… Well written Shail
