Brushing off thoughts!

The bride’s mother brushes away the tears

to see the ceremony.

Her father brushes lint

from the sleeve of his jacket

as he leads his daughter up the aisle.

The maid of honor

brushes the jealousy

from her feelings,

follows behind, beaming.

The best man brushes

inside his pocket,

feels for the ring.

The priest brushes up on

the wedding ceremony,

doesn’t miss an “I do.”

The bride brushes aside the veil

to kiss the groom.

The groom brushes

off the lipstick, sighs with relief

that he didn’t mumble.

The flower girl

brushes up the train

of the wedding dress,

grips it tight

as the party leave the church.

Then the cleaning people

burst in, quickly

brush the aisle, the altar, clean

in time for the next couple.

Ten years later,

divorce.

She keeps the brush.

He gets the brush-off.
